Did you know? When buying a home you will want to be represented by a buyer’s agent.
- Buyers’ agent by law will need you to sign a buyer’s agency agreement before showing you homes. This agreement usually lasts for six months.
- Sellers of the home (through your selling agent) you want to buy typically allocate 2% of the home sale price to the buyer’s agent, effectively paying the buyer’s agent for the work of bringing you to the house and writing up the offer.
- Beware: Some buyer’s agents may attempt to charge the exorbitant rate of 2.5%-3.0% of the selling price. This means that if they collect the 2% from the seller you are on the hook for the rest. On a $600K house you could be responsible for up to $6K. This is pure greed.
